
Mike Starr, an American musician best know as the original bassist in Alice in Chains, whom he played from the band’s formation in 1987 until 1993, was found dead in a Salt Lake City house Tuesday, March 8, 2011. This piece of news shock the music world, and since he himself went public with his drug problems on the reality TV show "Celebrity Rehab," many came to the conclusion that his long battle with drugs ended Starr's life.
An audio recording obtained by TMZ was release March 11. The voicemail has yet to be authenticated, but a caller who identifies himself as Starr says that he is from the band Alice in Chains, asks for drugs at a "killer price." The call ends with: "Just come up this way. I need it so bad. Alright, call me. Later”. The caller also discusses a possible business deal guaranteeing the receiver of the call that they are "gonna make some good money on this."
His death was another tragic chapter for Alice in Chains since in 2002 the band original singer also reported death due to drug overdose. Shortly after Starr’s death, the rest of surviving band member release a statement that read, “Members of Alice in Chains are mourning the loss of their friend and ask that the media respect their privacy - and the privacy of the Starr family - during this difficult time. Their thoughts and prayers are with the Starr family”.
